Chapter Eleven

Breakthrough

The next day Celicia came through for them, not only with the List but with the last three months of the Crown's finances, sales and purchases done at the kingdom level or through the Silvarin estates.

“Father seemed surprisingly pleased at my desire to be more involved in running the kingdom,” she said as she eagerly handed over the packets of carefully copied documents. “I think he believes that my recent disapproval of his response to your raids has prompted me to try to change Haraldar for the better from within. He says it'll make me a more effective ruler, and a check on my future husband as King Consort. And he's not wrong in that . . . it's at least part of my motivation.”

They spent almost three hours with the princess as she walked them through the finances. Ireni had come along for this meeting in order to provide their new ally the proof she'd demanded of their accusations against the Consortium. As Spymaster she also wanted to ask Celicia more focused questions about the political climate of the kingdom and Harald City, along with other knowledge Celicia was privy to that she might not even realize.

Of course, not all of that time was spent on work. The clandestine nature of the princess's new role as their agent in the palace seemed to excite her to no end. Which might've been an indication she didn't fully appreciate the danger, even though Dare and Ireni did their best to drive the point home with her.

She was also excited at the prospect of having five new paramours, entranced by Ireni's delicate beauty and poise and charmed by the fox girl twins' adorable playfulness. And of course she remained absolutely smitten with Lily, and at least according to his wives had a huge crush on Dare as well.
